"Truly a life changing event." Review of Maloney Vision Institute
- on Yelp!
Truly a life changing event. My main challenge with Lasik was getting the courage to actually go and do it. From the second I walked in the door at the Maloney Vision Institute I felt like I had made the right decision. My technician was not only friendly and sweet but extremely knowledgeable and professional. She answered every question I had in my mind before I could ask it. Returning on the day of the surgery I was confident and relaxed and it really was one of the easiest and painless procedures I have ever done. Dr. Devgan is amazingly polite and calming and the procedure was a snap. Immediately after I sat up and opened my eyes for the first time I couldn't believe that I could see so clearly already. Recovery time was quick and painless and I can't thank Dr. Devgan and his staff enough. The price was also pretty reasonable and I highly recommend them to anyone thinking about Lasik.

When people learn I got lasik done and how much I paid for it ($6400), they're shocked. I don't understand that. If you're going to get your eyes done, wouldn't you want to go to the best? Why would anyone compromise their vision? Anyone who does their research will know that Dr. Robert Maloney is the best lasik surgeon in Los Angeles. He's the guy people go to when they get a botched lasik, and is able to treat them and make their eyes better. He's the guy other lasik surgeons go to when they want lasik done to themselves. He's done the operation himself on practically every member of his family and wife's family.
There's something about Dr. Maloney, he's one of those guys that you feel like you can trust without really knowing him. He told me that I had to go about a month without wearing contacts because I had a certain problem with my eyes. Anyway, when I was finally ready for the procedure, it took all of 5 minutes. It didn't hurt, although there is a bit of discomfort when they use some sort of device to keep your eyes open. The next day, I went through that ritual of seeing time without the aid of glasses.
They take care of you up to a year after your surgery. I've interacted with different doctors during my post-op follow ups. I have to say, if you can, try to schedule your appointments with Dr. Farid Eghbali, he is an absolute RIOT! He is so hilarious, a total joker and so laid back. I now have 20/15 vision (don't know what it was before, but my contacts prescription was -6.75, which is pretty bad), don't experience any halos or glares, and marvel constantly at the crispiness of my new vision. If you're thinking of getting lasik, don't compromise, go to the best and get it done right.

One of the best things I have ever done in my life, period, was get Lasik by Dr. Maloney.
I had 20/15 vision the day after my surgery, and still do today, one year later. The procedure was quick and painless, and just as Dr. Maloney had said would occur, my vision was a little blurry at times during the first three months, but cleared up completely after that. Being able to see like a normal person again is so liberating! There isn't a single day that goes by when I don't marvel at my ability to see without glasses or contacts.
Dr. Maloney was fantastic. Prior to the procedure, he was helpful in answering my questions and did not try to push a more expensive procedure on me, and in fact, advised against the more expensive procedure because he believed the result with the less expensive method would be just as good. The other doctors in his office are just as helpful and professional. I'd definitely say the care I received there was second to none.
Following my surgery, I referred 3 co-workers to Maloney. All 3 went to Maloney for their Lasik and are just as thrilled with their results as I am with mine. And we're all attorneys, who by nature are impossible to please!

Lasik Rule of Thumb: Don't go to a place that needs to advertise in the LA Weekly. Any place that offers a two for one discount is probably not a good idea.
Maloney Vision Institute is by far not the cheapest place to get laser eye surgery, but then again, you probably shouldn't bargain shop when it comes to your eyesight.
I went to the Maloney Vision Institute back in January, after a friend of mine gave Dr. Maloney a glowing review. If you visit his Web site, you'll see that he has the resume and the celebrity clientele to back up his stellar reputation in the Lasik community.
Personally, when I visited the Institute, I found the celebrity aspect cheesy (there are celebrity testimonials both on the Web site and on the walls of the office), but I will say this, Dr. Maloney is very smart about how he chooses to run his practice. Most places that deal with celebrity clients, treat everyone else like they are unimportant.
From the moment I walked into Dr. Maloney's office, I felt like I was in good hands. Let's face it, you can talk to all your friends who've had Lasik done, but there is no amount of research that can prepare you for the unknown. In the waiting room, I was asked to watch a DVD that explained and demonstrated in detail what the procedure would entail. Then a pre-op specialist was appointed to me to run tests that would determine whether I was a good candidate for Lasik. She explained what she was doing every step of the way.
When it was time to meet the doctor before the surgery, we walked down a corridor with examination rooms on the righthand side and a long seating area to the left with post-op patients resting with their eyes closed for the mandatory five minutes. Admittedly, I felt like I was part of a sci-fi assembly line; if you think about it, the whole procedure is just weird. I was in my examination room for only two minutes when Dr. Maloney walked in to say hello & explain more about the procedure. I am a complete nerd when it comes to efficiency. Nothing makes me happier than a well-oiled machine. I figured out later that the reason why I never had to w
After meeting the doctor, I was given a short lunch break and returned feeling nervous as my pre-op specialist prepared me for the surgery with numbing eye drops & an optional dose of Xanax. My advice to anyone getting Lasik done is TAKE THE XANAX; when the Xanax kicks in you won't even care if you go blind. I was in the operating room for only five minutes when Dr. Maloney arrived to begin the procedure. He explained everything thoroughly before each step of the procedure. In addition, he had a checks and balances system in place to ensure that the chart he was going off of was indeed my chart and that the laser settings were for the correct eye. The procedure was over in 7-10 minutes, and I was led over to the resting area.
After five minutes, I was given a care package complete with goggles, antibiotics, a DVD with post-care instructions, and an Ambien to help me keep my eyes closed for the next four hours. My parking fees were covered in full (unlike Cedars Sinai), and my husband drove me home.
Two weeks later, I got a box of chocolate in the mail congratulating me on my 20/15 vision. Some might think this is over the top, but come on, the man, in addition to having an impeccable resume, knows how to run a smart business.
Five Star Yelp Review of Maloney Vision Institute

My friend recently got Lasik eye surgery at Maloney Eye Institute and he can see better than 20/20 now (20/10, 2x better than 20/20). He has no glare and no pain. If any of you are considering this procedure, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Maloney. He is THE BEST, and a pioneer in Lasik surgery. He has a very calm personality, is very thorough, and also has great bedside manners! Everyone I know who has gotten Lasik has gone to him.
He does a lot of celebrities (Angelina Jolie, William Shatner, Cindy Crawford, Barry Manilow, Drew Carey) and pro athletes. The procedure is quick and painless and recovery time was minimal (he only had to wear those ugly goggles for a few hours). He was driving the next day and his vision he said, was amazing.
It is pricey here though - $6400. It's not your average $1000 for Lasik, but they have CareCredit interest free financing for 1 year. Besides, it's your eyes; it is an investment, and trust me you will not regret it, and while your friends are suffering from side effects, you won't be.
